Domain bound for terrain self-shadow: cascades with texels coarser than this (meters) exclude terrain from the depth pass. Relief shadow below map resolution collapses to a few quantized visibility levels (iso-depth banding at globe scale); declining to render below-resolution content is the explicit form of what the moment-based pipeline did by blurring it into invisibility. Shape casters remain meaningful at any texel size and are never gated - terrain still receives their shadows everywhere.
Slope-scaled polygon offset for the caster pass (factor × max depth slope + units × implementation quantum). Covers the rasterization-texel slope only — the receiver's per-tap receiver-plane bias handles the filter kernel's spatial reach, so the factor stays small and chimney-scale contact shadows survive. The 24-bit cascade depth buffer keeps the constant term sub-centimetre even for kilometre-deep cascades.
